With school having started over a month ago and school work and extracurricular activities piling up, it can be really hard to stay on top of all of your work. One thing that makes it easier to keep up with your responsibilities is setting goals for yourself. Many students do this to balance everything that they are involved in. In this story, you will read about the goals Hazen students set for themselves for this school year and how they plan to accomplish these goals.
Alan Perez is a senior this year, and although graduation seems far away, time flies by and before you know it that day will be here. There are many things you need to complete before being able to get your diploma and graduate, which is why Perez’s current goal for this school year is to “make sure that I have all of my graduation requirements done.” This goal may seem simple to accomplish and that the only hard part is waiting for the day to come, but it actually can be scary to think about the next step after graduating high school. Perez plans to achieve this goal by “just constantly reminding myself that I am ready to leave Hazen and move on to the next step, as well as knowing that I need to make sure I can make it to college.” This goal is going to be very beneficial for multiple reasons such as helping be prepared in college. Perez says, “it’s going to help me out in the long run because I’ll be more prepared for after high school as well as not having to stress or worry about if I’m gonna be able to graduate or not.”
Ayda Lemma is a junior which means she has a lot to do this year, between taking the PSAT and SAT, starting to think about what colleges she wants to attend, while also balancing school and a social life. This is why Lemma’s goal this school year is to “be as balanced as possible, with school, my family, my friends, and myself.” This is a lot of people’s goals because it’s hard to keep up with all of your commitments and finding time for yourself and your loved ones. Lemma plans to achieve this goal by “being organized and managing time wisely.” This goal will not only help her this school year, but also prepare her for the real world. Lemma says, “it will help me achieve my bigger goals in life.”
College. Kendon Nguyen is a sophomore, so he still has to do some difficult things like the PSAT and keeping up with his school work but he also has this year to try out different activities and clubs throughout the year and find which of them stick. Nguyen is this year’s class of 2027 Spirit Representative as well as the Vice President for Hazen Fitted, which is why his current goal for this school year is to be “engaged and involved as much as I can. Encouraging others to do so would be another goal.” Having leadership roles like those are not easy and require a lot of commitment. Nguyen plans to achieve these goals by “participating in spirit weeks, joining clubs, and attending events hosted by the school.” This goal can be useful throughout his high school career and even after high school. Nguyen says, “this goal can help me in the future by motivating me to participate and give all my effort into occasions where they’re needed.”
Lilli Harkins is a freshman this year so she is adjusting to the differences between middle school and high school. Grades matter in high school, even your freshman year which is something that people forget sometimes. This is why her goal is to “get straight A’s or at least good grades because this is my freshman year and I feel like this year kind of sets my future path in high school.” Freshman year is also the year when you need to figure out study habits and what you need to set yourself up for success. Harkins plans to achieve this goal by “getting most of my work done in class and not let any homework or projects pile up. I also plan to do extra credit work and also put in all my effort into my assignments.” This goal is very practical and will be useful for the rest of highschool and me positive and helpful habits of getting things done on time and putting in effort when I need it the most.”
These are just some Hazen student’s goals for themselves for this school year, but many other students also set goals. So, hopefully after reading this story you are inspired to set a goal or two for yourself to set yourself up for success this school year and make it your best year yet.
