Hey seniors! As the third trimester has begun and graduation is fast approaching, it’s important to make sure all our bases are covered in terms of graduation requirements so we can walk across the stage come June 12! As a senior, I know that keeping track of everything we need to do during our final year of high school while simultaneously keeping up with all our schoolwork, can be extremely overwhelming. I thought it would be helpful to provide an in-depth to-do list for any senior or student who wants to get a head start, can follow.
High School and Beyond Plan and Community Service
The HSBP (High School Beyond Plan) is a tool that provides students with the opportunity to explore their own interests and skills while also helping students discover potential career and educational options. The HSBP can be found on Xello, which can be accessed through the Clever portal. Years 7-12 need to be completed by Apr 1, 2024. Your homeroom teacher will be able to support and guide you with any questions you may have. If you need to check where you’re at, you can ask your homeroom teacher to check your progress. Once completed, email your homeroom teacher so they can check you off. Along with your HSBP, your 20 hours of community service are due April 1, 2024, and must be turned in through Xello and to the front office.
Cap and Gowns
If you or your family purchased a cap and gown by the Jostens deadline of October 17, 2023, they were delivered and distributed on March 20, 2024. If you’re unsure if you already bought them you can check in with the ASB office. If you haven’t purchased your cap and gown yet, it’s not too late! You can email Jostens @[email protected] or by calling 206-931-4723. Make sure to do so ASAP as graduation is only 3 months away.
Scholarships
Seniors, it’s about that time when we start hearing back from colleges! If you’ve been awarded any scholarships, please be sure to inform Mr. Nguyen in the Opportunity Center so he can add it to the graduation program! If you haven’t received any scholarships or haven’t applied for any yet, there’s still time! There’s no time like the present to continue the scholarship search. Remember seniors, you can stack your scholarships, so apply for as many as possible! A couple of resources that you might find helpful are fastweb.com and thewashboard.org.
Prom
Mark your calendars, seniors! Our last high school dance is set for May 11, 2024. Tickets go on sale on April 29 and will be able to be purchased through May. Tickets are $50 with or without ASB. If you have any fines, you will not be able to purchase tickets until they have been cleared. You can purchase your tickets online or at the ASB office with Ms. Dodson.
As we navigate these last few months of our High School journey, it’s important that we take it all in as well. Pretty soon we’ll be going our separate ways to start the next chapter of our lives. So let’s make sure we get all of our graduation requirements completed seniors!
Mr. Johansen also has some words of wisdom for the class of 2024, he says, “The spring months are an exciting time and they fly by! I encourage seniors to find that sweet balance of finishing strong while also enjoying your final months together at Hazen.”
I can’t wait to walk across the stage with you all on June 12! I wish you all the best in whatever you decide to do next. Good luck seniors!
