The most eventful episodes of Grey’s Anatomy
(Spoiler warning)
For the past 19 years, Grey’s Anatomy has been airing on live television. Now in its 21st season, Grey’s Anatomy is one of the most popular shows in America. Through all of these seasons, there have been some of the craziest ups and downs. Some days, surgery goes well, and some days it doesn’t. Others, one minute you’re walking down the aisle with your favorite character, and the next, your fiance is nowhere to be found. You may see a pattern. The most eventful episodes are each season’s finale.
Mr. Walker is an advisor of HOSA (future health professionals) and a trained paramedic so I asked his opinion on Grey’s Anatomy. He said, “I could not make it through the first season of Grey’s Anatomy, as it was more of a drama than it was medical-related. I had a similar experience watching Chicago Med. ER was a better show to watch because it is more realistic than Grey’s Anatomy.” So, Grey’s Anatomy is a heavily drama-impacted TV-series which is why most people decide to watch it even when they do not have a desire to go into the medical field.
These episodes are some of the craziest and eventful episodes of Grey’s Anatomy.
Episode summaries:
Season 5 Episode 24, “Now or Never”
At the start of this episode, a patient called 007 is rushed into the ER because of suddenly being hit by a bus. The residents had been worried because it was a major injury that had happened, what they didn’t know was that the patient “007” was George O’Malley who was a fellow resident who had just left the hospital earlier that day. While Izzie Stevens had just awakened from her surgery after talking to her doctors and husband her heart suddenly stopped while this happened instead of seeing her dead fiancé coming out of the elevator like in a previous episode she sees George O’Malley in his army uniform. By this point, it is indicating that most likely George O’Malley is no longer alive and passed away.
Season 6 Episode 24, “Death and all his friends”
After a patient’s death, an angry grieving husband brings his gun to the hospital. This only means that the few residents who did not leave the building are forced to operate on fellow residents and attendings, all because of the problems that the shooter had created. Throughout the whole episode, tragedy after tragedy happens, one minute the episode is somewhat steady and the next almost everyone’s life is destroyed. Dr. Webber was the only one who calmed the shooter down, even though there was no way to calm a shooter the doctors tried their hardest. Meredith Grey and Cristiana Yang operated on each other’s husbands to save their lives. Derek Shepherd Merediths Greys husband had been shot which was shown at the beginning of the episode. Due to the amount of stress caused during this time Meredith suffered a miscarriage, making recovery very hard for all attendings, residents, interns, and patients physically and mentally.
Season 8 Episode 24, “Flight”
Eventually, if you have or have not watched Grey’s Anatomy you will probably know the name of the hospital which all of the characters work at, Grey + Sloan Memorial Hospital which was not always the name but, here is how this name came about. When you start watching this episode you wonder why everyone is outside laying in the dirt and somewhat unconscious next to a plane but by connecting the dots you realize it was a plane crash. Tragically, one of the main characters, Lexi, Meredith’s half-sister, is trapped under part of the back of the plane and does not survive due to her pelvis and legs being crushed, leaving Mark alone until Cristina and Meredith show up. While Mark was grieving Lexi, he made it back to Seattle Grace (the original name of the hospital), and he was on life support while being in a coma, once he had awakened in episode 2 season 9 he passed away due to cardiac tamponade. The writers decided to not have Mark die in the plane crash but instead episodes later. The reason they chose to do this is because the writers believed that the characters Mark and Lexi should not have been acting without each other, the actors agreed as well.
Season 11 Episode 21, “How to Save a Life”
One of the lead characters, Derek Shepherd who is a neurosurgeon, has been in Grey’s Anatomy since it started. He had been chief of surgery and had two daughters and a son. When Derek Shepherd was on the way to drive to Washington D.C he witnessed a very unpleasant car crash and went to save everyone. Once he saved the people in the car crash the paramedics arrived and he was ready to leave until he was hit by a semi-truck and rushed to the hospital. While being unconscious and in an unknown hospital they did not do a CT scan on Derek’s brain knowing they should have. At the hospital, they had no neurosurgeons, and the neurosurgeon had arrived too late once the doctors realized how serious Derek’s injuries were and he was already on life support. Knowing the doctors had made that mistake Meredith, Derek’s wife was upset and had to decide on signing the papers that take him off life support and having to say her goodbyes.
The next episodes after Derek’s death she’s leaving parts one and two along with two more episodes until the season ends.
To sum up, Grey’s Anatomy is a great show if you are looking for something to watch in your free time as there are many episodes. It is also a great show because of the amount of awareness raised throughout the whole show such as life and death even if it is unrealistic at times.
