Along Sunset Boulevard are three major local restaurants:
Which is Kim Phuong with its commitment to Vietnamese culture, El Rinconsito with its local and loyal following, and Cafe Sabah with their cultural and unique flair.
Kim Phoung
Across the road from the recently opened Ross near, stands Kim Phuong Vietnamese Restaurant. Opened in 2007, it’s a humble restaurant run by its namesake, Kim Phuong, who has a passion for preserving and sharing her culture. The website says
“The love of Phuong’s mother and fond memories of her culture have helped the owner overcome many challenges, serving as her primary inspiration. In 2007, Phuong decided to follow her dreams and independently open her restaurant to become a businesswoman. Today, this business is called Kim Phuong Restaurant.”
Reviews have stated it has excellent service and Quality, but how is it if you were to go to it today? Despite the simple sign and lack of outdoor decor, don’t get it confused with just a roadside family restaurant. Kim Phuong is an authentic experience with great friendly service for a good price. Its most popular items are the Pho Tái (Rare Steak) and Banh Mi (Grilled Pork Sandwich).
El Rinconcito
Within the Albertson’s parking lot stands an unassuming small-chain Mexican restaurant known as El Rinconcito. Its 15 locations have been serving communities in Washington state for a long time, and their website shares how,
“In 1997, Lupe Guzmán, owner of a prosperous Lunch Truck, asked Abel Brambila to join him in his effort to bring traditional Mexican food to the Kent, Washington area. In the following years, due to the public’s acceptance and popularity, they opened up a location in Burien, WA.” The recommended items are their Wet burritos, Meatastic Asada Tacos, and their spicy Quesabirria
(Shredded beef and cheese) Tacos.
Cafe Sabah
Across the street from Goodyear, there is a Turkish restaurant called Cafe Sabah. Its importance to Renton’s Islamic communities can’t be understated. During the ninth month (February to March) of the Islamic calendar is Ramadan, in which there is an 11-hour period of fasting and prayer during the daylight hours, as when the sun is down, that is when it is time to eat. Considering that a majority of Turkey is Muslim, Cafe Sabah is a rare taste of home for many during the 31-day fasting period.
Its mission statement is,
“Cafe Sabah is a Turkish restaurant that emanates a welcoming ambiance, showcasing the affection of its clientele, the artistic ingenuity in its decor, and the sheer joy of its patrons.”
It’s commitment to bringing Turkish cuisine not just to its own community but also to those interested in it. Its most popular dishes are its Halal Meat kebabs, Donner Wraps (Beef Wrap), and its Baba Ganoush (Eggplant Dip).
