Zoe Loughnane, Head Editor
Hi I'm Zoe (she/her)! I am one of your Chief Head Editors of The Kilt. I have worked on this newspaper for four years now. I love the community that we have built here and watching everyone grow as writers, designers, and people every issue. This will be our best year yet.
Nick Platin, Head Editor
Hey guys! This is my fourth year as a Kilt staff/editor and I'm currently serving as one of your Chief Head Editors. I like to write about pop culture topics like the super bowl halftime shows or new music coming out along with big news topics. Some of my favorite parts about The Kilt include the people I work with and all the fun activities we do! If you think you might want to join feel free to contact any staff or editor to learn more!
Annika Hauer, Managing Editor
Hi! I'm Annika, wonderful to see you here on The Kilt's website! I am a managing editor, and I've loved to lead and work with the curious individuals of our paper. I also love journalism, believe it or not—one of my proudest pieces is The System Behind the System, which I wrote in 2022. I'm honored to work with all the other names you see here, we couldn't do what we do without everyone's passion!
Kya Baker, Managing Editor
Avital Tepper, Lifestyles Editor
Drew Anderson, Head Editor
Hi guys! I am Drew Anderson and I am your Managing Editor of The Kilt. I am a junior and this is my third year in journalism. Past head editor Dylan Anderson, my older sister inspired me to join this class and it quickly became my favorite part of Hazen. Designing the cover is always the most exciting part of publishing our issues. I hope you guys enjoy our new online platform!
Nick Schott, Creative Director
Hi, my name is Nick, I’m a senior, and I’m one of the two creative directors for The Kilt. I spend most of my free time traversing mountain ranges on my twigs, when I’m not, you may find me on a hike or just chilling with my friends. I love music so most of my articles are related to my favorite artists.
Paulina Mercado-Topete, News Editor
Hi! I’m Lina, and I’m the Kilt’s news editor. I love my Kilt community, I’ve met so many inspiring individuals that motivate me to pursue my passions. Outside of The Kilt, I love to spend time drinking coffee, hiking, and exploring book shops! Some of my favorite artist and authors are Yoshimoto Nara, Mary Oliver, and Joan Didion. I hope you love The Kilt as much as I do! Cheers to a year of innovation and accomplishment!

Olivia Panelo, Managing Editor
HII :D I’m Olivia. I am a sophomore and I am the clubs editor here on Hazen’s newspaper staff. I love trying to give a spotlight to newer clubs or clubs that are lesser known. Ever need help getting your club out there, message me on Instagram @liv._jpg, and trying to find the perfect club for you? Read my article Club quiz here. I hope you enjoy my articles on the new online paper. STAN TWICE
Manuel Interiano, Writing Coach
Chelsea Mae Davatos, Community Outreach Editor
Hello! I'm currently a senior at Hazen High School. I've been a part of The Kilt staff for three years and an editor for two years. When I'm not writing a story you can see me doing homework at a local cafe, working out at the gym, or trying out new restaurants in the greater Seattle area!
My favorite part about being part of The Kilt has been growing closer with the staff and seeing everyone explore their creative outlets through writing, photography, drawing, or designing. I'm so excited about the release of our digital website and this new chapter of The Kilt!
Misha Zeleniak, Sports Editor
Erika Kerimova, Head Editor
Hey guys! My name is Erika Kerimova and I am a Junior. I am the Managing Editor this year and this is my third year in journalism. I decided to join journalism because I thought it would be a good way to meet new people and improve my writing and design skills. My favorite article that I have written so far is the twin story or the immigrant parent’s story.
Mia Carbo, Opinions Editor
Hi guys! I'm Mia, I am a sophomore here at Hazen. I am also the co-opinions editor with Aliyah! I've been in journalism for two years now and it's definitely been memorable. My favorite thing about this class is the work ethic that you gain from it. It's really helped me better myself in general and in school. I really enjoy being able to connect with the student body and write about things that matter.
Aliyah Diquan-Mcrae, Co-Head Editor
One of my favorite articles I wrote in The Kilt would have to be “Gangsta Rap and the N.W.A” that I wrote last year or “The little Mermaid” story from this year!
Kuhio Tandal, Staff
Aden Erskine, Staff
I joined journalism this year partially because I like writing, and because journalism was a partial interest of mine. The main reason, though, was that I felt I needed to participate in some part of the school before I left for college. Some extracurricular activity, or something like it. I’m glad I chose journalism. In my stories, I, at first, wanted to write about things related to Renton, as well as the region we live in as a whole, mainly the Seattle metro area. I wanted to bring to light cool things in the area, and answer questions I’ve personally had about things in the area. Now that we are on an online issue, I mainly just write about whatever I find interesting, but I still try to highlight things many people either don’t know about or don’t think much about. Check out my stories!
Livy Loughnane, Staff
Hey guys! I'm Livy (she/her) I'm a freshman. Being on The Kilt has truly been an amazing experience, I have made so many connections with people. The Kilt is a very inspiring place. I can guarantee that once you have been involved in The Kilt community, you’ll remember it forever.

my interests in a formatted sort of way and make art to go along with! Hope y’all love the
online version of the Kilt!
Eri Spitznas, Staff
(They/Them) I’m Eri, Senior in High school, fresh face at the Kilt. Sometimes a subject isn’t as well served by a news piece as much as a bold argument in editorial form, and oh boy do I serve well. I also serve as the Co-President of the Hazen Gays, Lesbians, Or Whatever (GLOW) Club.
Bianca Garcia, Staff
Julian Early, Staff
Yassir Mendoza, Staff
