Fall is officially here, and making an effort to be seen this year. As the leaves change colors, the sun goes down earlier and the moon sets later in the morning, and pumpkins are purchased for doorsteps, people start to cozy up with books and movies.
Growing up in a house that encouraged the media in every way possible, well into my teen years, I was mesmerized by movies, poetry, music, etc. With this beloved season of cozy creep approaching, I wonder, what media are you all consuming?
Whether it be students or even staff members, you can see that fall media is a beloved subject among many at Hazen. People talked about all different movies and books, anywhere from a classic like Nightmare Before Christmas, to favorite rock bands, and mystery books that give them thrills and chills. Fall looks different from one person to another.
Devin Chan (10) has a love of 2000 movies and music. He said, “The film, 10 Things I Hate About You, I really like how the characters shape the movie, and if I had to choose a song that reminds me of fall, I would probably say, ‘Need 2‘ by Pinegrove. These two classics are chosen for a classic time of the year.
Hartley Smith (9) offered a heartwarming and endearing movie to add to your fall watch list.
“The Dead Poets Society! Recommended to me by a friend, and ever since, I have loved it because of its fast plot and relatable characters.”
April Hood (12) commented on this generational movie for all ages that brings fall to life.
“I love The Nightmare Before Christmas, both because it is a Halloween and a Christmas movie. I grew up watching it as a family favorite, and it is very nostalgic with how the Claymation comes together ”.
The teacher supervisor of Hazen’s very own Book club, Mrs. Gollegly, responded with a pleasant and plush way to enjoy this timeless season. “I love a little mystery around fall time. I just finished the thrilling, suspenseful story “I’ll Be You” by Janelle Brown, and it is just the perfect book to read while bundling up with a blanket and some delicious hot cocoa.”
Language Arts teacher, Dylan Knight, stated a smashing tradition to bring to future fall/ Halloween into a special stoplight of the year. “ It has become like a little Halloween tradition for me, on Halloween night, rewatching the first 6 seasons of Buffy, Vampire Slayer. While passing out candy to trick or treaters. It reminds me so much of when the TV show first came out, bringing such a nostalgic feeling to the day.”
This question gave a new perspective on what fall may look like from one person to another. This story gave a personalized perspective on a small fraction of what the Hazen community sees, imagines, or looks forward to when fall comes rolling around every year. As this season brings beautiful leaves and treats, take a minute to enjoy this magnificent weather and bundle up with a good piece of media to match your perfect fall evenings.
