As the end of the winter sports season approaches, here’s a look at the progress that our Hazen teams have made! Check out the schedules of all of the sports.    Though girls’ basketball had a rocky start with a few injuries, their season has progressed excitingly with several wins in a row. The teamwork and effort the teams have put in all season-long shows on the court.

Wrestling:

   With the end of their season and Senior Night approaching, the close-knit wrestling teams of Hazen are far from over. Wrestling has had off-season conditioning almost all-year round, training similar to a club sport, displaying the athletes’ commitment to their sport. They’ve all been working hard this season, six days a week, and with post-season weeks away. The teams have been competing far and wide, from Pasco to Nevada! Their Senior Night is at a home tournament, “Taking Down Pancreatic Cancer.”

Boys:

   The Boys Wrestling team has had much success this season, with multiple wins at meets, and individual placements at invitationals. All the athletes have performed well this season.

A remarkable note to add is that Mario De Anda Lopez (12) had been selected to compete against a Japanese wrestler in a cultural exchange competition.

   It’s an exciting time for Girls Wrestling. For the first time since the team’s establishment, this is the largest team for girls wrestling in Hazen’s history. The team has had multiple placings at invites and meets, displaying their grit and determination. With new additions along with the previous athletes returning, the team is looking forward to post-season approaching.

Boys Swim:

   The family-like community of boys swim brings way to its welcoming comfort to its athletes in their performance and pride in their accomplishments. The community brings light to the difficult times that the sport may provide. Regardless, there have been many achievements such as a few qualifying times for state times, and personal PRs to the team.

Cheer: 

   Though the season is coming to an end, the accomplishments from the cheer is far from over. Cheer finished with the highest qualifying score in the division at Districts, and the highest score during the first qualifying competition in Hazen history. With their new coach, Jasmyne Everheart, the cheer team is looking forward to State at Battleground High on February 2-3 for the last of it’s competition season.

 

Dance (formerly Drill) : 

   The competition season starts in January! This year, Dance is competing in Pom and military, with competitions for the regular season before heading to Nationals in Orlando, Florida later on in February! Districts and State are in March. The exciting theme for this year is based on Todrick Hall’s Wizard of Oz and Hocus Pocus – witches!

 

Gymnastics: 

   The gymnastics team has recently combined with Lindbergh High School as a co-op team. Though they are small, they represent a team full of life and might as they venture close to the end of their season.
